WFD clients discuss the customized solutions developed to serve their diverse
business needs.
Fireman's Fund Insurance Company
"Two years ago, Fireman's announced an ambitious business goal to become one of
the top ten insurance companies in the United States by the year 2000. Our senior
management realized the importance of providing our employees with the tools they
needed to sustain themselves during this major push.
Working with WFD, we conducted a comprehensive study to assess the needs and
values of our employees and how we could align those needs with our business
goals and strategies. We found over 60% of our population was affected by work-life
issues, and these issues impacted business outcomes.
The result? Working with a group of managers, we developed guidelines and a
process for requesting flexible a work option, manager/supervisor training, and a
communication strategy to introduce this initiative company-wide. We believe that by
providing our employees with these types of tools, we will strengthen employee
initiative and commitment to Fireman's Fund."
Sears, Roebuck, and Co.
"Our repair business has gone through enormous changes in recent years. The
requirements of our customers are very different from what they were ten years ago.
Today we provide a service that is highly accessible and responsive to our customers'
needs.
Early on, we realized that the success of our new business strategy depended on the
full support and energy of our technicians. We conducted focus groups with
employees and managers and discovered that our work force wanted more
information and communication from their managers and supervisors, as well as
better tools and training to satisfy new customer needs. They wanted to feel more
connected to Sears and have input into their jobs.
Now we are putting new initiatives in place to respond to these issues. Our
associates are beginning to feel connected to the company in new ways, an essential
ingredient if we are to succeed in our new business strategy."
Teradyne, Inc.
"Recruiting at Teradyne has become more competitive in recent years. Our traditional
field of competition has changed. We also recognized that both college recruits and
our current employees have become more aware of work-life issues. We wanted to
compare our work-life efforts against the leading companies in our industry and key
labor markets. So we asked WFD to conduct a benchmarking survey. The results of
this survey will help us decide which areas to focus on over the next several years."
"At WFD Consulting we partner with our clients to create inspiring work
environments where businesses succeed and employees thrive. Our research,
consulting, and implementation services enable our clients to mobilize the
full richness, diversity, and potential of their employees, resulting in a
